How to Retrieve Gmail Emails That You Permanently Deleted
When emails keep flooding in, it’s easy to just start hitting delete when any don’t spur our interest. They often either sit in our trash for 30 days and get permanently deleted or we choose to permanently delete them. What happens, though, when you permanently delete an email that you actually need?
Usually you can kiss your email good bye. However, there are some ways to restore permanently deleted Gmail emails. If you use G Suite, you may have this option. You can also seek help from Google.
How to Recover Gmail Emails That You Permanently Deleted:
What happens when you hit “delete”
A deleted email in Gmail goes into your trash folder. It will stay there for 30 days. It’s a handy way to recover deleted emails, especially ones you accidentally delete. That, however, isn’t an option after those 30 days.
Seek Google’s help
Are the emails gone forever? Possibly. But first you can ask Google for help.
You want to report the issue to Google. This is particularly useful if someone accesses your account without your authorization and you find emails missing, but you can try it if you need to retrieve a permanently deleted email for other reasons as well.
Google will ask you for your email address and other details like when you first discovered emails were missing. Google will ask you to briefly describe what you think happened.
Again, the primary use is in case of unauthorized access. You may not get as warm a helping hand if you accidentally deleted an email.
G Suite to the rescue
Privileges of using G Suite include being able to recover permanently deleted Gmail emails. You can recover emails lost from the inbox and the trash folder both.
Google Cloud’s G Suite is a set of intelligent apps including Gmail, Docs, Calendar and Drive. It’s a business-focused suite of apps that can help companies be more productive.
G Suite administrators can restore deleted emails by using the Admin panel. They can do so for up to 10 users. The catch is they can only recover emails deleted within the past 25 days. If it’s longer than that, you’re likely still out of luck.
Here are the steps you want to follow.
Step 1: Log into the G Suite home page and your admin account.
Step 2: Launch the Admin panel.
Step 3: Click on Users to discover G Suite users within your company.
Step 4: Click on the user that lost an email.
Step 5: Click on the three vertical dots that you see on the top right corner of the user’s page, then click Restore Data from the drop-down menu.
Step 6: You will see a box appear on your computer screen. Answer prompts like date and the service, pick the date range and put Gmail as your service. Once you are done, tap on Restore Data.
That should do the trick. If you are a G Suite user and not the G Suite administrator, contact the administrator of your G Suite.
If you are not with a company or organization that uses G Suite, you may have to rely on contacting Google as stated above. There are third-party apps that claim to do the trick, but be cautious. You are taking a chance that it’s a scam to get your password.
