Users have reported apps crashing on their Google Pixel or Google Pixel XL smartphone. Many users love the smartphone but report this problem.

Sometimes the apps crash when launched. Other times they won’t respond at all. At times it’s specific apps like Facebook and WhatsApp.

Have you experienced this problem? If so, check out these troubleshooting tips to use when apps crash or freeze on your Google Pixel or Google Pixel XL phone.

How to fix Apps Crashing or Freezing on Google Pixel / XL [Pixel 2 / 2 XL]:

Update your Software

As always, your smartphone will work best when it’s running the latest software. Make sure you have the latest Android system installed as well as any updates. These updates often fix bugs with apps that may be causing them to have problems.

Step 1: Open Settings.

Step 2: Scroll to the bottom of your screen and tap on About Phone>System Updates.

Restart your Pixel/Pixel XL

Sometimes you can take care of the problem just by restarting your smartphone. To restart your Pixel phone, push your phone’s power button for about 30 seconds.

Clean Up your App Data

You may need to do some housecleaning on your phone. Cleaning up the cache and app data will free up space and may solve your problem.

Step 1: Open Settings>Apps or Application Manager.

Step 2: Tap on the app with which you are having problems.

Step 3: Tap on Clear Data then tap on Clear Cache.

Restart your phone then launch the app and see if you are still having problems.

Update your Phone’s Apps

It’s always a good idea to update your apps as well. Here is how to do so.

Step 1: Open your phone’s Play Store app.

Step 2: Tap on the menu button then go to My Apps & Games.

Step 3: Tap on update next to the app that you need to update.

You can also tap on Update All.

Uninstall and Reinstall the App

If the other steps do not work, uninstall the problematic app and re-install it. Back the app up if you have data that you do not want to lose.

Step 1: Touch and hold the app you want to uninstall.

Step 2: Drag the app at the top of the screen to finish uninstalling it.

Step 3: Install a fresh copy of the app.

Free Up Memory

Your freezing or crashing apps may be caused by a lack of memory on your Google phone. Delete any unused apps or media files to free up more space.

Consider Deleting the App

If you are having problems with a specific app, read through reviews and see if any other users have had problems with it. If so, consider deleting the app and seeing if another app can perform the same function. This isn’t always possible, but depending on the app it may be.

Factory Reset your Pixel/Pixel XL

If all else fails, consider resetting your smartphone to factory specifications. Make sure to back up your device first because you will lose all applications and saved data.

Step 1: Turn off your phone.

Step 2: Press and hold your Volume, Home and Power button at the same time until the Android icon appears.

Step 3: Use the Volume Down button to scroll to Wipe Data/Factory Reset and press the Power button.

Step 4: Use the Volume Down button to highlight Yes – Delete All User Data and press the Power button.

Step 5: Wait for your phone to reboot.

Hopefully one of these steps solves your freezing or crashing apps problem. Enjoy your smartphone and happy browsing.
