How to Restore Lost iCloud Contacts to iPhone
We rely on our smartphones to keep us in touch with our contacts. The iPhone gives us plenty options to do so. But what happens when your contacts are gone?
Sometimes iPhone contacts synced with iCloud do disappear. You sign out of iCloud and back in and they’re gone. They may come back after a while, or they may not. What do you do when they don’t? If you know the person well, you may be able to just re-do the contact by memory. That may not be the case. If not, and if you don’t want to ask the person for a phone number or email address again, you’ve got to find a plan B.

Reboot your iPhone
Just in case if it’s an easy fix, reboot your iPhone and see if that does the trick. You want to sign out of iCloud, restart your phone, sign back into iCloud and give it time for the contacts to sync.
Re-sync iPhone contacts with iCloud
The next step is to try resetting your iPhone contacts to sync with iCloud. Here is how to do so.
Step 1: Open Settings on your iPhone.
Step 2: Scroll down to Contacts and tap on it.
Step 3: Tap on Default Account.
Step 4: Tap on iCloud.
Step 5: Restart your iPhone. Give it time. The missing contacts may not return immediately.
See if contacts are not synced in iCloud
Changing your default account settings on Contacts to iCloud may leave some contacts from your iPhone missing in iCloud. You can manually add them to your Contacts app so that, when iCloud backs up your iPhone again, they are saved.
Step 1: Open the Phone app on your iPhone.
Step 2: Tap Contacts.
Step 3: Tap Groups.
Step 4: Tap on All iCloud and uncheck it.
Step 5: Tap All (name of your iPhone) and select it.
Step 6: Tap Done when you are prompted.
That will show you contacts synced directly to your iPhone and iCloud. Do you see contacts missing? You can manually add them to your iCloud contacts.
Restore unsynced contacts to iCloud
Do you see contacts on your iPhone that aren’t on iCloud? Here are the steps that you want to take to restore them to iCloud.
Step 1: Tap on the unsynced contact and message yourself the contact by tapping Share Contact.
Step 2: Close the Contacts app.
Step 3: Launch your Message app.
Step 4: Select the Contact card.
Step 5: Tap on Create New Contact.
Step 6: Add other information you want to list for the contact.
Step 7: Tap on Done.
Following these steps will hopefully resync your contacts on iCloud and on your iPhone.
