A smartphone isn’t much use to you if you can’t make calls on it. Imagine how irritating it can be if you have to call your spouse or children, or if you have an important business call to make. This issue does happen, however, and not just because you forgot to pay your phone bill.
Such issues have been reported on occasion by iPhone users, and some claim it’s especially a problem with phones operating on iOS 8. They try to make a call and – even though everything seems to be working properly and they have a strong signal – they get a message saying “Call Failed” no matter who they try to call.
How you can fix iPhone call failed error:
Step #1: Restart iPhone
Always start with one of the simplest things you can do that may fix it. Often just restarting your iPhone clears any glitches. To restart your iPhone press and hold the sleep/power button for a few seconds. When you see a red slider, move the slider from the left to the right. Wait about 20 seconds more than press the same sleep/power button until you see an Apple logo on your screen.
Step #2: Turn on and off Airplane mode
Airplane Mode shuts off Internet access so that no one interrupts you. You can attempt to fix the Call Failed error by toggling your iPhone’s Airplane mode. Turn On the Airplane mode on by swiping up on your iPhone screen in order to enter the Control Center. Tap the airplane icon on the upper-right corner of the Control Center. After a few seconds turn it back off.
Step #3: Toggle your Show My Caller ID
Here is another solution that has reportedly worked. Press your iPhone’s home button and go to Settings. Scroll down to Phone then, once you click it, scroll down and click on Show My Caller ID.
Turn it off then on again. Make sure you have it turned back on then try to call someone and see if it works.
You may also try this option. Dialing *#31# triggers a hidden code that disables your iPhone’s ability to keep your phone number anonymous. Dial *#31# and see if it works.
Step #4: Close unnecessary apps
The problem some users have is that they have too many apps open at one time. This can drain your available memory and cause problems including making your attempts to call people fail. Double press on your iPhone’s home button and swipe up the apps to close them.
Step #5: Check Date and Time
A possible problem is your Date and Time may not be set correctly. This could be especially true if you crossed time zones. To fix it make sure your iPhone is connected to Wi-Fi and do the following steps. Go to Settings>General>Date and Time then switch on Set Automatically. That will set the correct time.
Step #6: Reset network settings
Resetting network settings can sometimes fix the issue. Go to Settings then General. Look near the bottom and tap Reset, then Reset Network Settings.
Step #7: Update carrier settings

Go to Settings then General then About. Look through the list and see if there are any notifications saying an update is available. If so, then tap Update.
Step #8: Restart SIM card
Some users claim restarting the SIM card can fix the Call Failed issue. You want to eject your SIM card and see if it has any damages or scratches. Here is what to do.
Use a paper clip or SIM-eject tool to open the tray in which your iPhone’s SIM card is located. Take the SIM card out and – if possible – put it in another smartphone to see if it works. You can also put another SIM card into your phone then make a call and see if you continue getting failed calls. First call your carrier to see if there are any network issues that may be causing the error. If not, replace your SIM card.
Step #9: Disable LTE
Enabling LTE gives you a faster Internet connection, but it may affect text messages, calls, voicemail and cellular data. You can disable it by going to Settings>Cellular>Cellular Data Option>Voice and Data. Once here, choose 3G.
Step #10: Update iOS
Have you updated to the new iOS yet? If not try that and see if it works.
Connect to the Internet and make sure your phone has at least 50 percent power left. Go to Settings>General>Software Update. Download the update.
When it’s downloaded, select Install Now.
Step #11: Reset All Settings
You can return settings to default by selecting Reset All Settings. To do so, go to Settings>General>Reset>Reset All Settings. It will ask for your password. After you enter it, again choose Reset All Settings to confirm that’s what you want to do. Your data will not be impacted.
Step #12: Reset iPhone to factory settings
